Step by Step guide "how to change carburetor diaphragms" without destroying your slides by cutting the plastic retainers.
Step 1 - Please, read the description of the tutorial and of course buy original type carburettor diaphragms from www.carburetordiaphragms.com suitable for your bike:)!
Step 2 - So you don't need anything else but the diaphragms! If you have troubles with removing the old diaphragms from the slides just get some PB Blaster or any kind of penetrating catalyst and lubricant. Spray the slides nicely or just inject it between the plastic rings with a syringe. You might use as well machinery oil, dish washer or just concentrated soappy water.
Step 3 - Once you get the old diaphragms slippery between the rings they will go out easy with hard pull. You can put a screw driver or something similar between the rings and try to open them just a little bit but VERY GENTLY without breaking or damaging the rings and pull in the same moment. If you get one side of the diaphragm out after that you go all around and half job is done!
Step 4 - Prepare the new diaphragm and put it on the slide and make sure the top side is top orientated.
Step 5 - Put the diaphragm on and into between the plastic retainers. Make sure the lip on the top is in the exact position according to the holes at the bottom of the slide like it was with the old one. If you spin the slide even a little bit you might have troubles after that. And once the diaphragm is into between the rings it is not easy to remove it without damaging it.
Step 6 - Use something thin but NOT sharp (narrow blunt side of a knife for example) to GENTLY push the small ring of the diapragm between the plastic retainers.
Step 7 and 8 - You can see here the result of "Step 6" DURING the surgical intervention:).
Step 9 - Finally to be sure it has got into the reatiners deep enough all the way around you can tight a piece of dental floss or something simillar but VERY GENTLY again so you do not damage the rubber.
Step 10 - And here you have the job done. You might have to shape the lip on the top with stanley knife as same size diaphragms can fit different carbs. It does not really matter as the lip is only for orientation. You can use some gasket sealant to hold the top ring of the diaphragm in the grove but be careful as it has to be RUBBER FREINDLY. Now you close the carbs, mount them back on the bike and go for a ride:)!
